Bradman Group, Inc., an Omaha, Nebraska-based IT Governance, Security, and Management consulting firm, is pleased to announce the completion of its six-month contract with AuthorHouse Inc. of Bloomington, Indiana, the world’s largest self publishing company.
Bradman Group’s role was to assist AuthorHouse in the migration of its recent corporate aquisition, iUniverse of Lincoln, Nebraska, to a newer, fresher infrastructure. The project involve planning and execution of numerous system upgrades and conversion, including migrating iUniverse’s existing legacy systems based on Windows NT 4.0 server software to Windows Server 2003 on the VMware ESX virtualization platform.
“When we first came to Bradman Group for a solution, we knew that they had extensive experience with virtualization technologies,” said AuthorHouse Information Technology Director, Ryan Steele. “Bradman Group was able to come in and quickly look at all of the older systems which we obtained through the acquisition and design a migratory plan that included an almost complete infrastructure upgrade for the oldest systems. The end result was that the entire gamut of end-of-life hardware was migrated over to the latest technology.”
How did this translate to uptime? “I think the most surprising aspect of the project was the complete lack of downtime. It was almost like flipping a switch for us. One second our most important software assets were running on byzantine hardware from the dot-com years. The next, we were running on the latest 64-bit hardware and fiber-attached storage, completely redundant. It really helped me sleep at night as revenue is directly affected by the performance of these systems.”
